What is it?

The Community Science Newsletter is a collaborative newsletter written by researchers, reviewed by, and for the community to connect healthy ageing researchers at UniSC with their audience and engage the community with the latest healthy ageing research. We aim to connect curious minds in the community to current experts in healthy ageing research, providing a platform to exchange ideas and knowledge, improving translation of findings into practice and tailoring future research to fit the community's needs.

You can access all our articles here online or sign up for our newsletter and have them delivered to your inbox hot off the press!

How the community science newsletter works

UniSC Researchers and our HACA science communicator work together to translate their research that is published in scientific journals (which are often hard to understand by other scientists in different fields let alone the public) into engaging, digestible articles written for the intended audience of their research, us!

Our team of community reviewers work with our science communicator to review the articles making sure they are interesting, digestible and well written. During the review we pose questions, suggestions and queries for the researchers to answer. The researchers edit their articles in response to our review. The final article is a much stronger piece of work created through community collaboration.

Words from our review team

Check out what our team have to say about the community science newsletter review process

Dr Kathryn Broadhouse science communicator HACA
“As a science communicator I work with both the researchers to translate their work and then the community reviewers to make sure the articles are interesting and accessible. The community reviewers always have very interesting, invaluable takes on the current research being done at UniSC which has also lead to some offshoot research projects. This community feedback and insight is the best part of this process and makes my job worth while.”

Dr Kathryn Broadhouse: HACA science communicator

“Communities can only benefit from research if they can access the findings and translate them into practice. The Community Science Club is a great way to find out what the healthy ageing researchers are up to at UniSC and to directly influence their future direction of their studies with your feedback.”
